It had a slight plastic smell when we first unwrapped it, but that went away after about a week. I’m very pleased with how it catches rogue goldfish and fries that make their way over the seats into the trunk. It’s also easy to shake out when things start to mold and stink. It’s made of thinner material, making it easier to maneuver around. The grooves help with drainage, but they’re not too deep to clean easily. The mat seems to be of good quality and does what I need it to do. Initially, it didn’t have a smell out of the box, but after warming up in my car, it started to get pretty smelly.
